Golf Cart Road List Expansion

The operation of golf carts has now been expanded to include any city street with a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour or lower.

Requirements

As per approved City Commission Ordinance Sec. 66-6, even on approved streets, golf carts and their operators must meet certain requirements. "It is unlawful to operate a golf cart on any street within the city unless: (1) The operator is a person who is under 18 years of age possessing a valid learner's driver license or a valid driver's license, or (2) is a person who is 18 years of age or older possessing a valid form of government-issued photographic identification."

When operated during the daylight hours (between sunrise and sunset), golf carts must be equipped with:

  • Efficient braking system
  • Rearview mirror
  • Red reflectorized warning devices on both the front and rear
  • Reliable steering apparatus
  • Safe tires

Designated Golf Cart Crossings

  • Hwy 77 and 9th Street
  • Hwy 389 (12th St.) and Illinois Ave.

Nighttime Use

For nighttime use (after sunset or before sunrise), golf carts must also be equipped with integrated headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and a windshield. These rules and other relevant traffic regulations will be enforced similar to any other motor vehicle.
